Speaker expresses condolences to families of victims of tragic train accident in Spain
Speaker Igor Grosu sent today a message of condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic train accident in Spain.
The official said that in these difficult moments, we stand by the people of Spain.
“Our thoughts are with Spain after the tragic train accident. We mourn the lives lost and hope for the swift recovery of those injured. We stand by the Spanish people and extend our sincere condolences to every affected family,” Grosu said.
A train accident involving two high-speed trains caused at least 39 deaths and 123 injuries on Sunday.
According to Spanish authorities, a train of the company Iryo, which departed from Malaga, in Andalusia (south), bound for Madrid, derailed near Adamuz, approximately 200 km north of Malaga, colliding with a train of the national company Renfe that was traveling in the opposite direction on an adjacent line towards Huelva. The force of the impact between the trains, which had hundreds of passengers on board, was such that it threw the first two carriages of the Renfe train off the tracks.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chișinău announced that at present, there is no official information confirming the presence of citizens of the Republic of Moldova among the victims of the train accident. The case is being monitored by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Kingdom of Spain, which is maintaining contact with local authorities to identify any potentially affected persons.
