Travel alert in Portugal due to high risk of wildfires
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova has issued a travel alert in Portugal today due to the high risk of wildfires. The national alert status is in effect on August 4–7.
In this context, the ministry informs citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are in, transiting, or intending to travel to the Portuguese Republic that local authorities have declared a national alert due to the extreme risk of wildfires, determined by weather conditions.
“MAE recommends maximum caution and re-evaluation of the necessity of traveling to the affected regions until safety conditions improve. During the alert period, Portuguese authorities are implementing exceptional prevention and protection measures, including: prohibiting access, movement, and parking of vehicles in wooded areas; banning the use of open flames, fireworks, and other pyrotechnic devices; and restricting the use of equipment and machinery that could generate sparks or accidental ignitions,” MAE said.
Thus, the authorities recommend Moldovan citizens to avoid high-risk fire areas and strictly follow the guidance and instructions of local authorities.
Additionally, it is important to monitor official information sources, including the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA): https://www.ipma.pt/en/riscoincendio/rcm.pt/, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC): https://prociv.gov.pt/pt/home/ , and the Government of the Portuguese Republic: https://www.portugal.gov.pt/pt/gc25. These platforms provide updated information, including daily risk maps and forecasts regarding the evolution of wildfires.
