Two Balti city hall employees detained by CNA in corruption cases
A deputy mayor of Bălți and deputy head of the Youth and Sports Education Department within the city hall have been detained by the authorities in corruption cases. The detention followed more than 30 searches conducted in the northern part of the country.
According to the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA), they are suspected of involvement in several cases of influence peddling, passive and active bribery. They are believed to have systematically received illicit financial means from the leaders and employees of some divisions of Bălți city hall, as well as from the directors of institutions under municipal subordination in exchange for providing services or favors contrary to the law. Investigations also revealed the acceptance of a bribe amounting to 200,000 euros by one of the suspects to favor an economic agent.
The criminal prosecution actions are carried out under the procedural direction of Chișinău Municipality Prosecutor's Office.
