Vaccination rate against infectious diseases decreased by about 20% in Moldova
Chisinau, Oct. 21 /MOLDPRES/- The vaccination rate against infectious diseases has decreased in the Republic of Moldova from 95% to 75% in the last two and a half years.
The head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance of Chisinau, Boris Gîlca said that the vaccination process slowed down with the emergence of Covid-19. "The population stayed in isolation, worked remotely and access to physical doctor's consultations was made difficult. This fact has considerably reduced the vaccination rate at the country level, which can represent a danger especially for children in the community/kindergartens/schools, as outbreaks of infectious diseases can occur. That's why we urge families to vaccinate children according to the age calendars, because only through immunization can we support public health", said Boris Gîlca.
With reference to the vaccination against Covid-19, the immunization rate in the capital is up to 51%, with dose I and II, being the highest in the entire country. "At the national level, a rate of 32% is attested, which is very little. Unfortunately, there is a decrease in the number of citizens who choose to vaccinate against the virus, but Covid-19 has not disappeared, that is why we must respect the protective measures. At the same time, in the cold season, it is very important for citizens to get vaccinated against the flu," said Boris Gîlca.
In the context of the decrease in the vaccination rate, the capital city hall approved a territorial action plan on the intensification of the immunization process including against Covid-19. It provides for the familiarization of the population with the advantages of vaccination for the prevention of communicable diseases. Informative materials on the importance of vaccination will also be placed on the official web pages of municipal institutions, on social networks and in public places.
