The Olympic team representing the Republic of Moldova at the Winter Olympics marched in the opening ceremony of the 25th edition. At the traditional athletes’ parade, the flag of our delegation was carried by skier Iulian Luchin.
In addition to the main ceremony held in Milan, athletes’ parades also took place in three other locations in northern Italy, with Moldovan athletes marching in Cortina d’Ampezzo and Predazzo.
The Republic of Moldova is represented at the competition by five athletes: three in biathlon and two in cross-country skiing. They are biathletes Alina Stremous, Pavel Magazeev and Maksim Makarov, as well as skiers Iulian Luchin and Elizaveta Hlusovici.
Four of the Moldovan athletes will start competing on 10 February, while Alina Stremous will make her debut on 11 February in the women’s 15 km individual biathlon event. For the skiers, this edition is their first participation in the Olympic Games; they will compete on 12 and 13 February.
Italy is hosting the Winter Olympics for the third time. In total, approximately 3,500 athletes from nearly 100 countries will compete in 116 events across 16 winter sports.
The Milano-Cortina 2026 edition also marks the Olympic debut of ski mountaineering and includes competitions in disciplines such as biathlon, skiing, skating, ice hockey, snowboarding and others.
In the Republic of Moldova, the Winter Olympic Games will be broadcast by Moldova 1 and Moldova 2 TV channels.
