
Ex-ambassador of Moldova to Turkey to run for governor of Gagauzia
Chisinau, March 23 /MOLDPRES/- Former ambassador of Moldova to Turkey Dmitri Croitor will take part in the elections in Gagauzia for the position of governor of the autonomy, due on April 30.
Croitor submitted the constituency lists to the regional electoral commission, managing to gather over two thousand signatures in 17 localities of the autonomy. He said he decided to participate in the election because he has "confidence in Gagauzia and the Gagauz people".
For the moment, seven applicants are known who will compete for the seat of governor of the autonomy. They are Nicolai Dudoglo, Grigori Uzun, Mihail Formuzal, Serghei Cimpoies, Dmitri Croitor, Serghei Cernev and Victor Petrov.
According to Comrat CEC, on March 1-25, documents are received for the registration of initiative groups in support of the candidates for governor, and on March 1 - 21 - for the support of the candidates for the APG deputy mandates for Vulcăneşti and Cioc - Maidan constituencies. The registration of candidates for the position of head of the Gagauz autonomy and for the APG deputy mandates will take place on March 1-30.
The governor (bashkan) is the supreme official of the Gagauz-Yeri Territorial-Autonomous Unit. All the authorities of the public administration of the autonomy are subordinated to bashkan. Governor elections are held once every four years.
