Hederlez holiday to be held online this year
Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/- The popular holiday of the Gagauz - Hederlez marked on 6 May, this year will be organized without spectators, due to the pandemic crisis caused by COVID-19 and state of emergency declared in the Republic of Moldova until 30 May.
According to the authorities from Gagauzia, the agenda of events of the holiday will be carried out online.
Hederlez is one of the main holidays of Gagauz, being marked every year on the day when Orthodox Christians of the old rite celebrate St. George, the patron saint of agriculture and animal husbandry. It is considered that after Hederlez spring comes into its own, nature changes and field work becomes more intense and productive.
Last year, the activities on the occasion were postponed by Comrat authorities due to the pandemic.
