Moldovan-Czech project multiplied in all regions of country
Chisinau, Dec. 10 / MOLDPRES /- Final meeting of the Moldovan-Czech project Regional Development in Moldova: Support for Implementation of Regional Strategies Using Geographic Information System (GIS) was held in Balti. It has multiplied in all regions of the country's development.
The project provided support to specialists from the North Regional Development Agency (ADR) on the application of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in the process of implementing regional development strategies. It has contributed to strengthening the capacity of actors involved in regional development processes and to the application of modern strategic planning tools.
Guided by Czech experts throughout the implementation of the project, ADR representatives learned how to create electronic maps and how to operate with raster and PDF data, as well as mapping services and OpenStreetMap sources.
ADR specialists are to put into practice the new skills in the process of elaborating the regional plans, as well as in the graphic presentation of some maps in concrete fields. The results of this project may generate a new type of strategic planning in the Republic of Moldova, making development regions more attractive to investors.
During the final meeting of the project, Victoria Zabolotnii, a specialist in external cooperation at ADR Nord, presented the successful practices in using the GIS system in the North Development Region. The expert noted that the Agency uses the system in the creation of regional databases, the graphical generation of sectoral indicators, in the planning and elaboration of strategic documents. In particular, ADR Nord uses the GIS system in the fields of water supply and sanitation, waste management, economic development and promotion, investment attraction, urban development, tourism etc.
The project was funded by the Cooperation Agency for International Development of the Czech Republic. It was carried out by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, in partnership with the Czech GEOtest Agency and the North, Center, South ADR and Gagauzia.
