The prehistoric cultural heritage of the Cucuteni–Trypillia civilization could be added to the UNESCO list through a joint effort by Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. In an exclusive interview with MOLDPRES, Romanian Minister of Culture András István Demeter said that this initiative marked an important step in strengthening regional cultural cooperation.

“Romania's collaboration with Moldova and Ukraine will be very close, just as we have acted in previous transnational files. This civilizational root is the best proof of the necessity for joint cooperation. We have common values, already validated at the UNESCO level,” the official emphasized.

The minister specified that the three countries would have clearly defined roles in this process, with one of the states to be designated as the “flagbearer.” “An important step will be the signing, next week, of an agreement that sets the general rules that all parties will follow throughout the entire process,” Demeter added.

According to him, the endeavor is complex and lengthy, but with coordination and patience, the common goal can be achieved: “The conservation and promotion of Cucuteni–Trypillia cultural heritage within an international framework, observing all UNESCO rules and standards.”

The Cucuteni–Trypillia culture, one of the most important prehistoric civilizations of Europe, existed between approximately 5,400 and 2,700 BC, on the territory of present-day Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. It is notable for its large settlements, pottery decorated with unique geometric motifs, advanced agricultural practices, and complex social structures. Archaeological discoveries in this culture prove the existence of organized communities with a high level of artistic and spiritual development, considered among the most advanced Neolithic societies in Europe.
