Exhibition of Romanian national news agency's archive photos inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of archive photos of the AGERPRES National News Agency of Romania was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry today.

The event took place within a meeting of the Mass Media Consultative Council Romania – Moldova, which convened for the second time to discuss the assistance for development in the media sector in Moldova and copyrights in European context.   

Attending the action were Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii, Romanian Minister Delegate for Relations with Romanians from Abroad Dan Stoenescu, President of ANCOM, Romania, Catalin Marinescu, Director General of the AGERPRES National News Agency Alexandru Giboi, civil servants and journalists from the two countries.     

The exhibition comprises 50 photos from the photographic archive of AGERPRES, which show Romania’s history. Some of the pictures reveal important moments from the history of Moldova and especially events which took place during years of the liberation movement and national revival.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Director General of the AGERPRES National News Agency Alexandru Giboi said that the exhibition was itinerant and comprised quite exciting photos.

According to Giboi, the AGERPRES photographic archive comprises several millions of photos, of which more than 90,000 were digitalized. The oldest photograph is from 1928. The AGERPRES director general also said he would come to Chisinau with an itinerant exhibition in next autumn, which would be staged during two weeks. The one inaugurated today was exhibited for one day only.   

AGERPRES launched the photographic archive at the Palace of the Parliament from Bucharest in last March, and afterwards exhibited 80 archive pictures in Iasi, at the Romanian Film Evenings Festival.

Founded in 1889, AGERPRES is the National News Agency of Romania. It has the role to provide balanced, unbiased information, and to be the main source of information for the Romanian citizens and institutions, as well as the most important source of news about Romania abroad. Starting from 1921, the agency has had an uninterrupted spread of news and information. Among the AGERPRES services, there are flows of topic-related news, services and the archive of press photos, press monitoring, video and multimedia services, documentation flow, as well as the printing services.
