
Moldova awarded at European level for DescOperă Festival
Moldova is among the winners of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Destinations 2025 competition, organized by the European Cultural Tourism Network in partnership with the European Travel Commission. DescOperă Festival has received the distinction in Resilience in Sustainable Cultural Tourism Destinations category, being appreciated as a model that combines natural heritage with opera art and involvement of local communities.
DescOperă Festival takes place annually in the spectacular setting of Orheiul Vechi Cultural-Natural Reserve, a site of national and international importance, recognized for its unique landscape and historical vestiges. The event brings opera artists and musicians from the country and abroad to the open-air stage, attracting tourists from around the world and contributing to the local economy through responsible tourism.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the award demonstrates that the Republic of Moldova can compete at the highest European level in the cultural tourism. The government constantly supports projects promoting culture and nature through investments in infrastructure, modernization of tourist attractions and diversification of cultural offering.
The official award ceremony is scheduled on 1-4 October 2025 in Sibiu, Romania, as part of the International Conference on Cultural Tourism, an event that brings together experts, authorities and operators in European cultural tourism.
