Chisinau International Airport records significant growth in air traffic in last January

The Eugen Doga Chisinau International Airport started the year 2026 with very good results, continuing the upward trend in air traffic recorded in recent years.

According to official statistics, in January 2026, total passenger traffic reached 447,127 embarked and disembarked passengers, which represents 133.5 per cent of the forecast for this period. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of passengers increased by 35.4 per cent, or +116,894 people.

As for aircrafts’ movements, 3,361 landing and take-off operations were recorded in last January, while cargo transport amounted to 181.6 tons.

The largest increases in passenger flows were reported on the following routes: Sharm el-Sheikh (8,862 passengers), Paris (8,263), Bucharest (7,336), Barcelona (6,928), Dubai (6,390), Yerevan (6,073), Istanbul (5,733), Larnaca (5,651), Brussels (5,443), Bologna (4,564), Berlin (4,003), Nice (3,097) and Dublin (2,874).

Newly introduced destinations in the flight network attracted 36,568 passengers, accounting for 8.18 per cent of total monthly traffic, confirming the growing interest in diversifying air connectivity. The most in-demand new destinations were Naples (4,707 passengers), Sofia (4,263), Baden-Baden (3,686), Turin (3,339), Alicante (3,152) and Billund (3,049). Other destinations attracted 14,372 passengers.

These figures show both the steady increase in interest in flights to and from Chisinau and the ongoing diversification of the destinations’ network, consolidating the Eugen Doga International Airport’s position as the main air hub of Moldova, the cited source notes.
