DOC // Lower gas bills starting today, 4 February
Household consumers in the Republic of Moldova will pay lower bills for natural gas starting today, February 4. With the publication of the ANRE decision in the Official Journal, the tariff has officially decreased by 2.15 lei (excluding VAT), reaching 13.35 lei per cubic meter.
The decision to reduce the tariff was approved on Tuesday, February 3, by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), and it enters into force today, once published in the Official Journal.
VAT is added to the regulated tariff, which means that the final gas price will be 14.42 lei per cubic meter, compared to 16.74 lei (including VAT) at present, a difference of 2.32 lei.
ANRE emphasized that the tariff reduction is driven by several identified objective factors, including a decrease in the average annual gas purchase price. Thus, the estimated average annual purchase price for natural gas in 2026 is approximately 404 euros per 1,000 m³ (equivalent to about 38 euros/MWh), compared to around 487 euros/1,000 m³ (equivalent to about 46 euros/MWh) included in the structure of regulated prices for 2025, representing a decrease of almost 17%. This reduction in acquisition cost is directly reflected in the final price paid by consumers.
At the same time, when setting prices, ANRE included adjustments from tariff surpluses accumulated at the beginning of 2026, totaling over 330 million lei. These amounts are returned to consumers through reduced regulated prices applicable in the period February–December 2026.
The last change in natural gas tariffs paid by final consumers was approved in late November 2024.
