Electricity from storage systems reflected for first time in national energy system
Moldelectrica has begun, for the first time, to reflect in the national energy system status the electricity coming from storage batteries. Thus, the first MWh of stored electricity have appeared in the system operator’s statistics.
Stored energy helps balance the power system and cover peak consumption in the morning and evening. According to the Ministry of Energy, storage batteries with a capacity of 25 MWh have already been installed, and by the end of the year around 200 MWh are to be installed by private companies.
The authorities emphasize the importance of investments in storage batteries, which increase flexibility, the reliability of the national energy system, and the generation curve of electricity. Thus, the second round of auctions for a capacity of up to 170 MW for the construction of wind farms includes an obligation for energy storage (BESS) of at least 0.25 MWh for each MW of wind capacity.
In late December 2025, Energocom purchased, for the first time, electricity from a local producer that uses battery energy storage systems (BESS). The producer operates photovoltaic panels that generate electricity during the day, which is stored in batteries and later delivered to the grid during peak consumption hours.
