VIDEO // Roadmen worked around clock across country: over 200 machines and thousands of tons of anti-skid material used following snowfall and blizzard

The National Road Administration (AND) announces that over the last 24 hours, intervention teams have been on permanent duty to maintain the functionality and safety of the national road network, in the context of snowfall and blizzard that have affected several regions of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the institution, in the northern, central and southern regions the roadway remains snow-covered, and in some places black ice has formed, a situation that requires increased caution from drivers. During the period, roadmen carried out continuous patrol, snow-clearing and anti-skid operations.

"To keep road traffic flowing, significant resources were mobilized: 229 special vehicles involved in snow removal; 218 road workers deployed in the field; 2,353.48 tons of anti-skid material spread on the affected sections. Teams worked in more than 35 districts and localities, with priority given to national and regional arteries – M, R and G-type routes. Works were carried out both preventively and repeatedly, in order to prevent the formation of ice and possible traffic blockages," AND explains.

In some areas, weather conditions caused temporary traffic difficulties. Road workers intervened quickly to restore traffic by clearing the roadway, towing stranded vehicles and providing necessary assistance to drivers. The authorities note that all blockages were temporary and traffic was resumed in the shortest possible time.

During the same period, the AND Operational Service continuously managed incoming notifications: 62 calls via the 112 Service; 54 direct calls from citizens; 25 reports from the National Public Security Inspectorate; six reports from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

All requests were handled promptly, either through direct field interventions or by coordination with the competent institutions, according to the road authorities.

The National Road Administration thanks the employees, police officers, rescuers and all institutional partners for the effective cooperation in managing the situation created by severe weather.

At the same time, the institution urges drivers to act with maximum responsibility, adapt their speed to road conditions, equip their vehicles appropriately for the cold season and seek information from official sources before setting off.

Roadmen works are ongoing, and the authorities assure that they are making every effort to ensure that traffic takes place safely across the entire national road network.
