Deputy Prime Minister meets with new Ambassador of Cyprus
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi had a meeting today with new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Moldova Pericles Demetriou Stivaros, based in Bucharest. The two officials discussed strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation within the Council of Europe.
Popșoi congratulated the ambassador on assuming his mandate and reiterated the interest of the Moldovan side in consolidating the Moldovan–Cypriot dialogue, especially in the context of the Republic of Cyprus holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026.
During the discussions, the parties addressed topics from the bilateral agenda and regional developments. They underlined the importance of promoting the principles of international law, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and strengthening cooperation within the Council of Europe and other multilateral organizations.
The sides discussed opportunities to expand economic and sectoral cooperation, as well as maintaining a constant dialogue on issues of common interest.
In conclusion, Popșoi wished the ambassador success in carrying out his mandate and expressed confidence that his work will contribute to deepening the friendly relations and cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Cyprus.
Diplomatic relations between the two states were established on 21 February 1992. The bilateral legal framework consists of 11 treaties.
