
European Investment Bank to support small-, medium-sized enterprises from Moldova
Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - The financing of small- and medium-sized enterprises for overcoming the pandemic crisis and carrying out of projects in the energy and transport infrastructure fields with the support of the European Investment Bank (EIB) have been subjects tackled at an online meeting with the participation of Economics and Infrastructure Minister Sergiu Railean and the head of the EIB representation in Moldova, Antonio Castillo.
The officials reviewed the projects backed by EIB and the stage of their implementation. Thus, the sides referred to the rehabilitation of electricity transportation networks, restructuring the railways, interconnection of the electro-energy systems from Moldova and Romania, improvement of the energy efficiency of the public and residential buildings, EIB’s operational crediting lines from Moldova’s banking system.
The economics minister thanked for the continuous support provided to Moldova by the European Investment Bank to implement projects of strategic importance in various sectors, highlighting the ones meant to strengthen the country’s energy security.
For his part, Antonio Castillo gave assurances about the continuing of the projects underway and extending the portfolio of loans. At the same time, the representative of this top European bank noted opportunities to support the real economy through the EU’s new programme for the Eastern Partnership countries, meant to ensure the attenuation of the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the context, Castillo stressed that EIB was one of the financial institutions, which would participate in the mechanism of providing support thorough this programme.
