Moldovan government revises way of awarding Grand Prize for performance in vine-growing, wine-making sectors

The government of Moldova, at a meeting on July 16, approved a revision of the procedure for awarding the Grand Prize for performance in the vine-growing and wine-making sectors, starting with the 2025 edition of the National Wine Day. The new evaluation framework will emphasize not only the turnover or infrastructure of companies, but also such criteria as investments, sustainability, involvement in wine tourism and participation in international competitions.

At the same time, two new national distinctions will be introduced: the Wine Creator's Trophy and the Distillate Creator's Trophy, meant to provide visibility and recognition to small producers and those who create quality distillates.

To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, the evaluation committee has been restructured. Starting from this year, the awards will be decided by a mixed committee, made up of representatives from central authorities, the academic environment and civil society.

“With these adjustments, we aim to build a more inclusive recognition framework, that truly reflects the effort, innovation and dedication of all actors in the sector,” stated Sergiu Gherciu, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The changes support a modern and sustainable approaching of the wine industry in  Moldova, focusing on quality, tradition and innovation.
