First meeting of Moldova – Baden-Württemberg Intergovernmental Commission: New directions for economic and technological cooperation

The first meeting of the Republic of Moldova – Baden-Württemberg Intergovernmental Commission took place on 27 November 2025, following Germany-Romania-Republic of Moldova Economic Forum. The meeting is a significant step in strengthening bilateral economic relations.

The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu and Florian Hassler, State Secretary for Political Coordination and Europe, Baden-Württemberg. The parties reviewed the progress in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 2 October 2024, a document that underpins the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Germany, which includes the creation of the intergovernmental commission.

Discussions focused on the prospects for deepening economic, investment, and technological collaboration, as well as identifying new opportunities for joint projects. Strategic areas such as agriculture and the food industry, energy, information technologies, innovation, as well as the expansion of bilateral trade and the attraction of German investments were addressed.

Osmochescu thanked the partners for the constant support and reiterated Moldova's openness to boost collaboration.

“The meeting marks a concrete step towards economic integration and active bilateral dialogue, with direct potential for business, technology, agriculture, and industry. I am convinced that together we will achieve concrete and beneficial projects for both sides. I look forward to continuing the dialogue and implementing the commitments made,” the official stated.

Baden-Württemberg is one of the strongest economic regions in Germany, and deepening relations with the Republic of Moldova represents an important platform for technological development, innovation, and commercial growth. Germany is currently the 6th largest trading partner of the Republic of Moldova, and authorities on both sides have expressed the intention to expand the cooperation on sustainable and mutually beneficial grounds.
