PM visits egg factory in central Moldova settlement

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has visited an egg factory in Varzaresti, central Nisporeni district, the first and only in Moldova producing eggs from free-range hens, complying with the standards accepted for commercialization in the European Union.

Monthly, over 980,000 eggs are produced here, of which 80 per cent reach  European markets. Axedum is also the first Moldovan company authorized to export poultry meat to the EU, thanks to high production, hygiene and quality control standards. Besides continuous investments in equipment’s modernization, the company plans to invest 180 million lei next year in constructing a feed factory for the livestock sector, which will ensure the quality and safety of animal feed and reduce the risk of contamination with diseases.

‘’The government supports this investment with financial aid of 90 million lei. We are proud of entrepreneurs like the Cojocaru family - hardworking and persevering people, who transform Moldovan products into a symbol of quality worldwide,’’ the prime minister said.

The export of chicken eggs for consumption in the European Union market reached almost 11 million units in the first half of 2025. This is a significant increase, after Moldova got the right, in 2023, to export eggs to the EU market. Thus, the number of eggs exported to the European market increased from 9,000 units in 2024 to 10,777,060 by July 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the volume of eggs delivered to non-EU markets increased too. While in 2022, 6,421,680 eggs were exported, in the first six months of this year, this number almost doubled, reaching 12,229,560 units.

On the other hand, egg production to meet domestic market needs increased, leading to a significant reduction in imports of eggs. The volume of imported eggs has decreased more than 20 times in the last four years. While in 2022, Moldova imported 18,280,800 eggs, this year, only 868,160 units were brought in.

Moldova got the right to export consumption eggs (category A) to the European Union market in 2023, with the first batch delivered to the EU market in October 2024.
