Moldova ranks second in the world among most appreciated destinations of wine tourism, outstripping Italy, Spain, France

Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - The National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV) today informs that Moldova ranked second among the most recognized destinations for the wine tourism, according to a study made on the Bounce platform. Moldova outstripped countries with traditions in this respect, such as Italy, Spain or France.  

The ranking was established based on such criteria as the wine production, area of vineyards and the number of tours organized, which highlights the diversity and richness of the country’s wine heritage.    

„The achievement got is not only a recognition of the quality of our wines, but also a proof of the tourist potential our country holds. With a score of 8.16 points, Moldova is on platform along with Portugal, which got 8.83 points and Italy, with 7.86 points. The pride to be on this position on the world stage shows the continuous efforts of the vine-growers and wine producers from Moldova, who worked tirelessly to create excellent products,’’ ONVV said.    

According to the quoted source, „we have a long history in vine-growing and the distinction got motivates us to promote the cultural values and attract tourists from all over the world. This success represents an opportunity to emphasize the uniqueness of the wine from Moldova and to encourage ever more enthusiasts to discover the richness of the wine heritage. We celebrate this achievement and commit to preserve the standards of excellence in the production of wine.’’     

Over 2% of the world's vineyards are located in Moldova. Moldova is among the top 20 wine-producing countries and a major exporter worldwide. The wine industry is one of the key branches of our country's economy. Moldovan wines are imported by over 70 countries from different regions of the world.

The main national event, which yearly brings together tens of thousands of visitors and tourists, stays the National Wine Day, held traditionally in the first week-end of October. The Wine Festival of Moldova, subsequently named National Wine Day, was held for the first time in 2002.
