Moldova to develop E-Mobility National Strategy: climate neutrality, with emphasis of transports sector's electrification

The concept of the E-Mobility National Strategy has been unveiled at a workshop organized by the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry (MIDR), in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The document meets the goal assumed by Moldova to achieve, in the long run, the climate neutrality, putting emphasis on the electrification of the transports sector.

The Strategy is aimed at transforming the way the transports contribute to the sustainable development, taking into account that this sector generates 26.3 per cent of the national emissions of greenhouse gas. At the workshop, experts, representatives of public authorities, private sector and international organizations analyzed priorities of the future strategic document and discussed solutions necessary for reducing the emissions and the transition to the electric mobility.

Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolea stressed the importance of an integrated approach, which is to include the cooperation between diverse sectors – from the transport and energy, to digitalization, urban development, tourism and finances.

„The transition to a sustainable mobility system is essential for our future. Today, we have chance to lay the foundations of this transformation and to build together a cleaner, more modern and efficient future. To be successful, the strategy should be an integrated one, involving actors from diverse sectors – transport, energy, digitalization, urban and rural development, tourism, finance and European integration. Also, the cooperation with the private sector will be essential for the implementation of pilot projects and for turning the vision into reality,’’ Vladimir Bolea stressed.

The official thanked EBRD for the constant support provided to Moldova for the development of the infrastructure and of the quality of the transport services. ‘’This partnership provide a valuable support for the country’s aligning with the goals of the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate and the international commitments regarding the reduction of carbon emissions,’’ the deputy PM noted.

The E-Mobility National Strategy represents an opportunity to speed up the transition to sustainable transports and is aimed at improving the citizens’ living standards, as well as at reducing the impact on the environment. The today’s workshop marked the first concrete step in the process of consultation, providing an open and constructive dialogue between all actors involved.
