New economy minister of Moldova introduced to team of competent ministry

Claudiu Nasui today was introduced to the team of the Economic Development and Digitization Ministry (MIDR) as the new minister, during a meeting attended by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. The new head of the institution takes over the mandate from Eugeniu Osmochescu.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said that the new minister’s mandate must contribute to achieving the government’s goals of developing a European-style economy and building a more efficient state. Among the priorities mentioned, there were attracting investments, developing local companies, enhancing competitiveness, and simplifying the relationship between the authorities and the business environment.

“We need a faster-growing economy, more investments, companies that can compete and export and bold changes wherever things can work better,” said Vasile Tofan.

According to the prime minister, making the administration more efficient will be another important direction, through reducing waste and bureaucracy and simplifying administrative processes. In the context, Claudiu Nasui will also have responsibilities in reforming the way state-owned enterprises and assets are managed and in simplifying the relationship between the state and entrepreneurs.

Upon taking office, Claudiu Nasui said that changes are needed, in order to create more favorable conditions for entrepreneurs and investors. The new minister emphasized that the economy of Moldova had significant growth potential, and harnessing this potential requires reforms and simpler rules that encourage private initiative and investments.

The former Minister of Economic Development and Digitization, Eugeniu Osmochescu, took leave of the team and thanked his colleagues for their cooperation. Osmochescu noted that he left behind a professional team and important projects for the country’s economic development and digital transformation.

Claudiu Nasui studied economics and finance in France and Italy and holds the international CFA certification. He has worked in the financial and banking sector, in consulting and in public administration, including at the National Bank of Romania, PwC, BCR and the Romanian Ministry of Public Finance. Between 2020 and 2021, he served as Romania’s Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism.

The ceremony was held at the headquarters of Moldova’s Presidency, in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
