Over 7,000 tons of fuel imported in Moldova in last two days; energy minister volumes allow for gradual replenishment of stocks, resupply of filling stations

Over 5,000 tons of diesel and approximately 2,000 tons of petrol have been imported over the last two days through the three main points of entry into the country – Giurgiulesti International Free Port and the Ungheni and Leuseni customs posts. Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has made statements to this effect, who stressed that these volumes allow for the gradual replenishment of stocks and the resupply of filling stations.

According to the official, the number of stations that are reporting a shortage of one of the types of fuel has decreased to 24, which are operated by companies that do not carry out direct imports.

“On 25 August, the number of stations with a diesel shortage was 48, and on 11 August – 109 out of the more than 500 existing filling stations. At present, commercial stocks amount to approximately 9 days of average diesel consumption and 8.4 days of average petrol consumption, calculated at the level of depots, Giurgiulesti International Free Port and filling stations,” noted Dorin Junghietu.

He emphasized that representatives of the institution were constantly monitoring the situation together with market operators and the competent authorities, so that the process of replenishing stocks can continue and the supply to consumers can return to normal in all regions of the country.

Moldova on July 28 introduced a state of alert in the energy sector for a period of 30 days, in the context of regional developments and the conflict in the Middle East. On 26 August, the government ruled to extend the state of alert for another 30 days, in order to allow the authorities to continue implementing prompt actions to prevent risks to the country’s fuel supply.
