Office for Implementation of Strategic Projects “Moldova Proiect” to accelerate major infrastructure investments

National strategic infrastructure projects will be managed by a single specialized structure that will bring together the expertise needed to prepare and implement major investments. The establishment of “Moldova Proiect” was approved by the Government today.

The Office will manage major infrastructure projects, including the construction of regional hospitals in Bălți and Cahul, as well as projects to be implemented under the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova. Bringing specialists and implementation capacities together within a single structure will enable better project coordination and more efficient use of available funding.

It should be noted that the institution is not being created from scratch. The Office will be established by reorganizing several Project Implementation Units.

“Some countries have significantly accelerated project implementation by creating such a centralized structure—Montenegro, for example. We will consolidate the existing implementation units, so this does not mean higher costs; on the contrary, we could save costs by having one unit instead of 12 units,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

At present, strategic projects are managed by different entities, with separate teams and procedures. The number and complexity of the investments to be carried out require a common approach, so that existing expertise can be used for multiple projects and available resources can be managed more efficiently.

The new structure will ensure a unified approach to the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of projects, from the planning stage through to the completion of the investment. Through this reorganization, the Government aims to accelerate strategic projects and increase the absorption of available funds, so that financing can be more quickly transformed into hospitals, developed infrastructure, and other important investments for the people.
