Bypass road of over 7 km to be built in Cimislia town of Moldova under a 43.3 million-euros-worth contract

More than 7 km of new road will be built to bypass the Cimislia town and divert transit traffic away from the urban area. The contract for the carrying out of the works today was signed by the National Roads Administration during an event held at the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry (MIDR), in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.

The bypass road will be built entirely along a new route outside the Cimislia town and will also handle part of the heavy traffic currently passing through the locality. The project is meant to improve traffic flow along the M3 route and reduce transit traffic in the town.

The construction of the section includes two bridges and three grade-separated intersections. The project also includes road safety measures, such as the installation of street lighting, safety barriers, road markings and signage.

“The M3 is an important road connecting the central and southern parts of the country along the Chisinau-Comrat-Giurgiulesti-border with Romania route. Both passenger and freight transport use this road, and the new bypass will make travel more efficient. This is an investment that will benefit both the residents of Cimislia and the drivers and carriers travelling along this route,” said Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.

According to the authorities, diverting transit traffic will help reduce noise and the flow of heavy vehicles on the town’s streets and create safer conditions for local traffic. For carriers and drivers travelling through the area, the new section is expected to provide a more efficient road connection.

The investment amounts to 43.3 million euros, with financing provided by the European Investment Bank.

The works will be carried out by the Turkish company ONUR Taahhüt Taşımacılık İnşaat Ticaret Ve Sanayi A.Ş., under the contract signed with the National Roads Administration. The construction period is estimated at approximately two and a half years.

The M3 route connects Chisinau, Comrat, Giurgiulesti and the border with Romania and represents one of the main road connections between the central and southern parts of Moldova.
