Government seeks solutions to increase budget for energy compensation during cold season
The Government is seeking solutions to identify additional sources of funding, including grants offered by external partners, to increase the budget allocated for energy compensation during the cold season. Finance Minister Victoria Belous announced this today.
“We are also trying to identify grants. We have approached foreign partners because, unfortunately, we do not have very substantial budgetary capacity, but we are trying to identify more sources so that we can help our citizens under conditions in which international prices and fluctuations are affecting us significantly, including citizens, businesses, and public authorities. We are working to find more support for citizens,” the Finance Minister said after the Government meeting.
Victoria Belous emphasized that the optimal budget for providing compensation would be approximately 3 billion lei. This would allow the Government to support a larger number of citizens through compensation during the cold season.
“The optimal budget would be 3 billion lei, compared with between 2.5 billion and 3.2 billion lei, and we would be able to provide significantly more support to more citizens. But once again, I want to emphasize that we must take into account our budgetary capacity, since in 2026 the entire compensation fund will be covered from the revenues of the Republic of Moldova,” Victoria Belous said.
Energy resource prices have increased recently under the influence of regional developments. In these circumstances, the authorities announced that they would supplement the compensation budget and support a larger number of citizens.
