Prime Minister about 31 January power outage: Losses very small thanks to rapid response
The economic impact of the 31 January power outage was limited, as the authorities intervened quickly to remedy the situation, and also because the incident occurred over the weekend, when most businesses are not operating. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made the statements today.
“We overcame this situation in a professional manner, with many services involved. The blackout occurred during the weekend, when most businesses were not operating. We are making calculations; there were losses, but the losses were very small due to the very rapid response,” the prime minister stated.
Alexandru Munteanu added that the authorities are making efforts to accelerate the commissioning of Vulcănești – Chișinău power line, which will strengthen our country’s energy security.
“We are trying to bring the line into operation as soon as possible. This is the Government’s goal, but it does not depend solely on us. We are working intensively with the Ministry of Energy. We are trying to speed up this process,” the official stressed.
The prime minister acknowledged that “difficult situations” may arise in the future, given that the power system is interconnected with that of Ukraine, which is subjected to continuous bombardments by Russia.
