VIDEO // Deputy Prime Minister: Moldovan economy to continue to grow in 2026, with positive developments in all major sectors

The year 2026 is forecast to be a continuation of the positive trends seen in 2025, even though certain objective factors might influence economic developments. For the next year, the anticipated economic growth is 2.6%.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Eugen Osmochescu made the statement before today's cabinet meeting.

“The economy of the Republic of Moldova continues to follow a positive trend, and 2026 is forecast to bring favorable developments in most economic sectors. According to estimates, public investments will grow by 14-18%, against the backdrop of economic stabilization recorded in 2025 and a favorable climate in certain areas,” said the official.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, private consumption will register a 2.2% increase, and foreign trade will advance by about 8% in 2026. Agriculture, which benefited from a favorable farming year in 2025, is expected to grow by 1.5%, maintaining its important role in the national economy.

“Industry, an essential sector for productivity growth, is estimated to advance by 3.5%, while the construction sector will register one of the highest growths - around 12%. The services sector is forecast to grow by 1.4%, on a consolidation trend,” said Osmochescu.

The information technology sector has a special role, which recorded exponential growth during 2024–2025.

“IT services exports have come to surpass goods exports, a first that reflects the structural transformation of the economy. This development is fueled by accelerated digitalization, the implementation of AI-based solutions, and the activities of companies in IT parks, including the first fully digitized park in Europe, where over 2,500 companies operate,” he said.

Economic officials emphasize that any growth, even moderate, is felt by citizens and contributes to improving the standard of living.

“The positive trend from 2025 will continue into 2026, strengthening the prospects of stable economic development. The exports of services, especially those from the ICT domain, as well as other specialized services, indicate a restructuring of the economy, oriented towards high-value-added sectors. This change confirms Moldova's capacity to produce and export competitive services on international markets,” Osmochescu said.
