Enlargement Report 2025 // Over 400 participants discussed progress and priorities for Moldova's European integration in Chișinău

Over 400 participants – representatives of the Government, business environment, civil society, academic community, and international partners – gathered today at the conference Enlargement Report 2025: Progress and Future Priorities of the Republic of Moldova, organized by the European Integration Office.

The event brought together key players involved in joining the European Union, who discussed recent developments, the recommendations of the European Commission, and objectives for the coming period.

Opening the conference, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov emphasized the importance of dialogue between the authorities and society in the enlargement process:

“Today's dialogue is very important to listen to the opinions and recommendations of society and partners on how we can, together, ensure an even better expansion report for the coming year. What we do, as a country, is to prepare the Republic of Moldova for joining the European Union. We do it for ourselves, not for Brussels.”

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu reiterated the Government's determination to continue the necessary reforms to accelerate European integration:

“Our country has achieved the greatest leap in readiness for accession since obtaining candidate country status. In just one year, the Republic of Moldova has made progress four times greater, thanks to people who haven’t stopped moving and, in recent years, have worked ten times harder. Our home is Europe. We don’t go to Europe, we bring it home, to the Republic of Moldova.”

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, the special guest of the event congratulated the Republic of Moldova on its results, mentioning that the country is prepared to open negotiations on the first clusters of chapters:

“The Republic of Moldova has made the greatest annual progress out of all candidate countries and I am very proud of you. You are determined to become a member state of the European Union. Your ambitions are high, but also realistic.”

German Ambassador to Chișinău Hubert Knirsch appreciated the progress made by the authorities and reaffirmed Germany's support in the European path of the Republic of Moldova:

“The European Commission's report recognized the progress made by the Republic of Moldova. Germany, together with other partners and international institutions, is ready to support your country in the accession process and in economic transformation on the road to the EU. We want a strong, sovereign, and secure Moldova as a democracy. We stand with you and together we will succeed.”

During the thematic sessions, ministers, experts, and representatives of the working groups analyzed the state of reforms and recommendations for 2026, covering the six chapter groups: “Fundamental Values”, “The Internal Market”, “Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth”, “Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity”, “Natural Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion”, and “External Relations”.

The conference was organized with the financial support of the project “Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration”, as well as the Regional Project “Reform of Public Administration in the Eastern Partnership Countries”, implemented by GIZ with financial support from the Government of Germany.
