PHOTO // New EU Ambassador to Chișinău with European Commissioner for Agriculture visiting Moldova

New EU Ambassador Iwona Piorko has already arrived in the Republic of Moldova. The diplomat is accompanying European Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen, who is on a working visit to our country. MOLDPRES correspondent captured the two European officials discussing with local producers in an apple orchard in Ștefan Vodă district.


The visit of the EU ambassador has not been officially announced yet. The new representative of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova will succeed Janis Mazeiks. The announcement about her appointment was made by Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

According to the EU Delegation to Chișinău, European Commissioner Christophe Hansen will visit agricultural enterprises and associations, fruit producers and exporters, as well as a Local Action Group in Ștefan Vodă. During the meetings, discussions will focus on rural development, and the competitiveness of Moldovan products on external markets.

Additionally, the Commissioner will visit a dairy factory to discuss attracting investments and how to add value to local agricultural production.

The visit will conclude with a trip to a centralized irrigation system in Criuleni that requires rehabilitation. 

Currently, Iwona Piorko serves as EU Ambassador to Singapore. Previously, among other roles, she held the position of head of unit for international affairs within the DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs at the European Commission.
