Poultry meat from Moldova reaches EU market: authorization for entire country

The entire territory of the Republic of Moldova has been included in the list of countries authorized to export poultry meat products to the EU – an important step for the national agri-food sector and for expanding access to the European market. In this regard, on 6 February 2026, the European Commission adopted a document updating the list of third countries authorized to place consignments of fresh poultry meat and poultry meat products on the European Union market.

The European authorities made the decision after assessing the animal health and veterinary situation in the country. The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), as the competent authority, provided official assurances that, in the regions of origin of poultry meat and products intended for export, no outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been recorded for at least 12 months.

“ This condition is essential in European legislation on trade in products of animal origin, as member states must ensure that imports do not pose an epidemiological risk to animal health or to consumers,” ANSA explains.

What this means for the Republic of Moldova

By being included in the European regulation, the European Union officially recognizes the national sanitary-veterinary control system, including mechanisms for surveillance, regionalization, and traceability of food products. The decision confirms that the standards applied in the Republic of Moldova are compatible with EU requirements on public health and food safety.

At the same time, the measure will facilitate access for Moldovan producers to a much larger consumer market; increase export opportunities for the poultry sector; encourage investment and the modernization of farms and processing units; and accelerate the alignment of national legislation with European norms.

Economic impact

Access to the European market is considered one of the most important commercial advantages for the poultry industry. Exports to the EU require compliance with strict quality and food safety standards, but at the same time offer commercial stability and more competitive prices.

The authorities emphasize that the decision will contribute to the development of the livestock sector, increase the competitiveness of domestic products, and strengthen the position of the Republic of Moldova within the European system for authorizing exports of products of animal origin.

Through the decision, the Republic of Moldova is taking a new step in its economic integration into the EU market, while local producers of poultry meat and products gain the possibility to sell their output on one of the most regulated and demanding food markets in the world.
