Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has met new Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Christopher Smith. The discussions focused on the OSCE’s role in supporting a peaceful and sustainable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, Moldova’s European path and the security situation in the region.

The PM reiterated Moldova’s firm commitment to resolving the conflict exclusively by peaceful means, while respecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

Vasile Tofan emphasized that the government’s goal was the gradual rapprochement of the two banks of the Dniester River through concrete measures aimed at improving people’s lives, building trust and contributing to the country’s economic and social integration. Moldova’s European path represents an opportunity for all citizens, including residents of the Transnistrian region.

The prime minister appreciated the OSCE’s contribution to maintaining dialogue and building trust between the two banks of the Dniester, advocating for the continuation of pragmatic cooperation focused on concrete results and adapted to new realities.
