Moldovan parliament speaker in Bucharest says Moldova, Romania connected by special relationship, strong partnership
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had meetings with Romania’s top leadership, during his working visit to Bucharest, the parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department reported.
At the meeting with the President of Romania Nicusor Dan, the discussions focused on regional security, infrastructure projects connecting the two banks of the Prut, economic cooperation and Romania’s consistent and unconditional support for Moldova’s European path.
“Moldova and Romania need each other in a Europe where security, stability and development are closely linked. A strong, democratic and European Moldova means a safer region and a more united Europe,” said the parliament speaker.
At the same time, Igor Grosu expressed his gratitude for the support provided by Romania over time. “Our countries are connected by a special relationship, as well as by a strong partnership built on trust, mutual respect and common goals,” underlined the parliament speaker.
In Bucharest, Igor Grosu also met his counterpart, President of Romania’s Senate Mircea Abrudean. The officials discussed the close cooperation between the parliaments of Moldova and Romania, joint projects that strengthen ties and the role of parliamentary cooperation in consolidating the bilateral partnership.
“We will continue to work together to complete strategic infrastructure projects and to bring Moldova closer to the European Union,” said the parliament speaker.
Igor Grosu also had a meeting with Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan. Igor Grosu thanked the Romanian PM for his involvement and constant support offered to Moldova.
“Thanks to his personal involvement, more important projects for Moldova and Romania have been stimulated and accelerated – from infrastructure and interconnection to economic cooperation and support for our European path. I am grateful to Mr. Bolojan for his full involvement and for the serious, open and warm manner in which he has always supported the relationship with Moldova. This involvement means a lot to us and stays an important contribution to bringing the two banks of the Prut closer together,” noted Igor Grosu.
The parliament speaker and Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, also discussed the agenda for 2026. Her Majesty and Prince Radu will support Moldova’s European path in Romania and in Moldova, as well as in European capitals, in such fields as economic development, education, environmental protection, science and the arts.
“We particularly appreciate the constant and unconditional efforts of the Romanian Crown in support of Moldova. With such allies, we can only succeed in the democratization and development of the country,” said Igor Grosu.
The visit agenda also included a meeting with President of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor. The discussions focused on relations between Moldova and Romania, as well as on our country’s European path.
“For Moldova, it is essential to have in Bucharest partners who understand what is at stake on this path and who know that a strong and European Moldova means a safer region,” emphasized the parliament speaker.
On May 12-13, Igor Grosu is taking part in the Security Forum of the Black Sea and Balkans region in Bucharest. The event brings together experts and officials from more states and includes panels dedicated to risks, threats and vulnerabilities in the region. The Forum is organized by the New Strategy Center under the high patronage of the President of Romania.
