Moldovan president has meeting with members of NATO’s Political Committee
President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with members of NATO’s Political Committee, on a visit to Chisinau – the first one to Moldova in over ten years. The discussions focused on the cooperation between Moldova and the NATO, strengthening resilience and defense capabilities, as well as the security situation in the region.
The head of state expressed her appreciation for the support provided by NATO and its member states for the modernization of the defense sector, cybersecurity, and countering hybrid threats. The cooperation with the NATO and partner countries also contributes to the training of Moldovan military personnel, the modernization of airspace surveillance systems and the development of defense capabilities, including against drones.
In the context, the sides addressed violations of the airspace of Moldova by Russian drones and missiles, cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. President Maia Sandu emphasized the need to continue cooperation with partners, in order to protect critical infrastructure and enhance the resilience of society. At the same time, the head of state thanked NATO countries for their support to Ukraine, stressing that this is vital for the security of Moldova.
The meeting took place on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova. At the military parade dedicated to Independence Day, soldiers from partner states will participate alongside Moldovan troops.
