
Moldova committed to achieving sustainable development goals, modernizing local infrastructure - acting PM says
Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi participated today in a video conference at the regional event -Urban change - transformation and the factors that fuel it, as part of the Istanbul Innovation Days, organized by the United Nations Development Program, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The official approached sustainable urban development and transformation by increasing the capacity of the local economy, additional support for the creation of growth poles throughout the country, increasing the capacity of communities to make a living and create new decent jobs, develop public services and modernization of local infrastructure.
UNDP administrator Achim Steiner pointed out that cities continue to be the lens through which society looks to the future, where new things start and innovative ideas intersect. This natural dynamism requires support for the urban economy, sustainability, digitalization for effective equity.
Aureliu Ciocoi also said that the government with the financial support of the European Union and UNDP is implementing a regional program to support the municipalities of Cahul and Ungheni to become positive examples of socio-economic growth and further expansion of this experience on a national scale.
Another relevant example of the involvement of the authorities is the development of local infrastructure and setting up multifunctional industrial platforms in 16 districts, which aim to support the development of small and medium enterprises, testing new and greener production technologies, creating decent jobs and export promotion.
