Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today had a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana, during a visit to Brussels, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
„I expressed the firm confidence of our country’s leadership on the need to consolidate the European security, on the basis of the promotion of comprehensive and inclusive approaches, based on the fundamental principles agreed upon by the concerned states, with the observance of the sovereign rights and legitimate security interests of the countries, in the parameters of a peaceful management of tensions,’’ Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu said.
At the discussion, the interlocutors punctually set the subsequent steps for the implementation of the goals of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) for 2022-2023, recently approved by the government, with the foreign affairs ministry having a role of coordinator of this process. In the context, the sides agreed on the need to act in the direction of carrying out the practical programmes in the sectors agreed upon by common consent and in the spirit of the Moldova’s constitutional neutrality.
At the same time, the Moldovan official appreciated the quick answer and the solidarity of the NATO states in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed gratitude for the generous contribution.
„I concluded in the discussion with Mr. Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana that Moldova would remain a reliable partner for the strengthening of security in Europe, through participation in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head added.
