Moldovan PM participates in commemoration of Holocaust victims
Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today participated in an official event on commemoration of the Holocaust victims, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The event was held at the Memorial Complex of Fascism’s Victims from Chisinau, where a requiem meeting was organized by the Culture Ministry, under the patronage of Moldova’s PM. Attending the event were representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, ministers, representatives of the parliament, Jewish Community and the Coalition Voice of Roma.
„If maps showed people, we would understand that nobody ever won any war. No ideology, no territory justifies the tears of a mother who pities her child. On this difficult period for the entire mankind, during which we have communities hit by the pandemic and economic crisis, we must plainly speak out for peace, for solutions, for good understanding and cooperation,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said at the ceremony.
The day of 27 January is included in Moldova’s official calendar and the authorities assumed concrete commitments for preserving the memory and promoting the studying of the Holocaust’s history.
The organization of the today’s event was provided for in the action plan for 2021-2024 on the promotion of the Holocaust remembrance and of the culture of tolerance, in order to combat the racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance.
Moldova is among the co-authors of the Resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly by consensus on 20 January 2022, which condemns the denying of the Holocaust as historical event.
