Moldova's parliament, U.S. Congress sign cooperation agreement
Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s parliament and the Partnership for Democracy of the House of Representatives of the United States’ Congress concluded an agreement on cooperation in Chisinau today. The document was signed by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and the president of the Partnership for Democracy, Congressman David Price, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The agreement establishes the two institutions’ intention to set a partnership, in order to exchange experience and good practices in the legislative field, as well as the cooperation through programmes on training, meant for the members and employees of the parliamentary institutions.
„We experience a historical and quite important moment, as we have signed an agreement, through which the institutionalization of the relations between Moldova’s parliament and the House of Representatives takes place. The very good cooperation so far acquires a new institutional valence – it will give an excellent possibility to the lawmakers of the two legislative bodies to better understand the processes and tendencies and find solutions to problems faced by our citizens,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
According to the parliament speaker, the agreement will facilitate, in practical means, a permanent interaction between MPs both at the level of parliamentary commissions and within the friendship groups and at the level of secretariats, it will be materialized through participations in trainings, exchange of delegations, implementation of new technologies in the legislative process. ‘’The most important thing is the possibility to mutually benefit through explaining the policies, processes, challenges taking place in one or another country. For instance, the subject of combating corruption and, respectively, of those who are guilty of the big thefts is needed often to be explained in details at the political level, including the parliamentary one,’’ the parliament speaker noted.
For his part, Congressman David Price, in his speech, said that the Agreement signed was meant to strengthen the friendship relations between the two countries and deepen them, including through enhancing the functional capacities of the democratic institutions. ‘’We admire Moldova and our admiration has grown in the last time, when we saw the firm position the country adopted at the international forums on Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, and we also admire you for the unparalleled hospitability you proved when you provided shelter to Ukrainian refugees. We should highlight also the efforts Moldova is taking in combating corruption and developing an efficient governance system,’’ the president of the Partnership for Democracy, Congressman David Price said.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu awarded the distinction, Democracy Medal, to the co-head of the group of friendship with Moldova at the U.S. Congress’ House of Representatives, Congressman David Price, as a token of high appreciation for the significant contribution to the development and deepening of the friendship and cooperation relations with Moldova.
