More road safety: Government sets clearer rules for market surveillance of motor vehicles
Government has approved the draft Law on type-approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles, which establishes a unified national framework for the placing on the market, type-approval and conformity verification of vehicles, systems, components, parts and automotive equipment.
The document aims to increase road safety, protect consumers, and reduce the risks generated by non-compliant vehicles or parts, by aligning national legislation with European standards.
The draft law provides for the introduction of procedures for type-approval and individual approval for road vehicles, including motor vehicles, trailers, motorcycles, three-wheel vehicles, and quadricycles. At the same time, market surveillance will be regulated for automotive parts and equipment, so that only products that meet technical requirements are allowed on the market.
An important element of the draft is the recognition of approvals granted in the European Union through a simplified procedure, without repeating technical tests, in the case of vehicles that already hold compliant documents.
“For the first time, our country will have a modern national vehicle type-approval system. This project means more modern procedures, more digitalization, and clearer rules for the responsible authorities,” said Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.
The implementation of the new law will contribute to a more transparent automotive market, to strengthening control over the quality of vehicles and parts placed on the market, and to protecting citizens against products that may affect road safety.
The draft law is to be submitted to Parliament for examination and adoption.
