Moldovan Prime Minister meets Bulgarian counterpart

Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Prime Minister of Bulgaria Rossen Jeliazkov had a meeting. They discussed the partnership and friendship relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Bulgaria, support for our country's European path, common projects and opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation.

"Moldova has become 'home' for thousands of families of Bulgarian origin. Together, we are building a European future. Moldova's future also means the future of the Bulgarian ethnic community in Taraclia. It is a European future, where every citizen, every community has the chance to live in freedom, dignity and well-being. Where diversity is respected," Recean said.

Rossen Jeliazkov noted the close cooperation between our countries and support for the Republic of Moldova's European path. "Our relations are based on three fundamental aspects: the common European future, shared values, and relations with the Bulgarian community, which represents a starting point for new achievements," said Jeliazkov.

The two officials emphasized that bilateral partnership is materialized through concrete projects in areas with a direct impact on people – education, culture, infrastructure, energy and community development.

"These are investments that can be seen and that matter. Schools in Taraclia have received modern equipment and buses. Kindergartens have been renovated, and Bulgarian ethnic teachers teach the mother tongue to students," Recean said.

Recean noted that in recent years alone, 15 km of water pipes have been built in Taraclia district, 3 schools have been modernized, 26 km of roads have been rehabilitated, and the district hospital has been equipped with modern equipment, including the Therapy Department - thoroughly renovated.

"A Russian drone exploded 2 km from this hospital, which reminded us of how fragile peace is. While Russia is waging a brutal war at the border and targets civilian areas where Moldovans, Ukrainians, Gagauzians and Bulgarians live, we continue to build. Our governance works for the European future of all people – and for all regions of the country. That sets us apart from those who only criticize but do not offer solutions and submit to orders from Kremlin," said Recean.

Successful collaboration is attested in education, with an agreement to be signed today for Taraclia University to become a branch of the Bulgarian University – the first Bulgarian higher education institution opened outside of Bulgaria.

The officials also discussed cooperation in the energy sector, with the signing of the contract between Energocom and Bulgartransgaz being welcomed – an important step for strengthening our country's energy independence.

Jeliazkov emphasized that Bulgaria will consistently support the European path of the Republic of Moldova, will share its EU accession experience, and will strengthen bilateral collaboration to combat common threats.
