Moldovan president attends events dedicated to 35th anniversary of foundation of Academy of Economic Studies

President Maia Sandu today took part in events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the foundation of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM), the institution where she began her professional education. The head of state highlighted ASEM’s role in training specialists for the economy of Moldova and emphasized the opportunities created by the closer integration of the Moldovan economy with the European Union market.

Maia Sandu noted that ASEM had been established on a period when Moldova was building its institutions and transitioning to a market economy. Over the past 35 years, the academy has trained generations of economists, managers, accountants and financial specialists who work in companies, banks, state institutions and international organizations, as well as in the entrepreneurial sector.

According to the president, Moldova is currently going through a new period of transformation, while the European integration represents the country’s development path. She noted that the national economy was increasingly connected to the European Union market, creating new opportunities for the business community.

“Our economy is increasingly connected to the European Union market and this closer relationship opens up opportunities that we must know how to capitalize on,” Maia Sandu said.

In the context, the head of state emphasized the need to enhance the competitiveness of the economy and expand production with higher added value. She said that ASEM continued to play an important role in training specialists for the economy of the future, developing research and strengthening ties with companies, entrepreneurs and public institutions.

Maia Sandu also said that economic development must create sufficient opportunities for young people, so that they can build their future Moldova and contribute to the country’s development.

The Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova was founded on September 25, 1991, pursuant to Moldovan Government’s Decision No. 537.
