Head of State discussed European path of Moldova with Irish Minister for European Affairs and Defence
President Maia Sandu met today with Ireland’s Minister for European Affairs and Defence Thomas Byrne. The talks focused on deepening bilateral relations and the European path of our country.
The President highlighted the importance of opening Ireland’s embassy in the Republic of Moldova and emphasized the intention to further strengthen ties between Chișinău and Dublin. The officials also underlined the role of the Moldovan community in Ireland, which serves as a genuine bridge between the two countries.
The Head of State reiterated her firm commitment to advancing the process of accession to the European Union, stressing that the reforms being implemented bring concrete benefits to citizens. In this regard, the two sides reviewed the progress made, as well as this year’s priorities, including for the period when Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU, starting from 1 July 2026.
In this context, the Head of State welcomed yesterday’s launch of technical negotiations for three groups of chapters, a process that is now extended to all clusters of the EU acquis. Also yesterday, the European Commission disbursed a new instalment of 189 million euros from the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova. These results confirm the sustained pace of the European path and the confidence of partners.
