Deputy Prime Minister attends Moldova–Switzerland Business Forum

The Republic of Moldova continues to innovate, adapt, and build strong international alliances, consolidating its place on the global economic stage, while its long-term partnership with Switzerland, based on shared values and mutual trust, remains a strategic pillar of our country’s development. The statements were made by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu, who took part in Moldova–Switzerland Business Forum held in Zurich.

The official stated that the event symbolizes not only the dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and Switzerland, but also the enormous potential offered by the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EFTA states.

“Today’s event is a joint commitment to economic growth. I am confident that we can turn the Republic of Moldova into an attractive destination for trade and investment by capitalizing on strategic sectors such as agriculture, construction, engineering, and electronics,” said Eugeniu Osmochescu.

According to the Minister of Economy, over the years, economic cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Switzerland has grown steadily. Bilateral trade reached almost 80 million US dollars in 2025, an increase of over 40% compared to the previous year, and more than 120 Swiss companies are already active in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agro-industry, electronics, and food production.

“Switzerland’s contribution, through technical expertise and development projects, supports the digitalization of services, the modernization of public institutions, and the alignment of trade policies with the European Union acquis, which is essential on our European path,” the deputy prime minister said.

According to the official, the entry into force of the Moldova–EFTA Free Trade Agreement has opened new opportunities and allowed our exports to EFTA states to reach 42.3 million US dollars in 2025, the majority going to the Swiss market – 95.9%. In this context, Eugeniu Osmochescu invited business communities to take advantage of these opportunities and turn potential into concrete results.

As of 1 April 2025, entrepreneurs from the Republic of Moldova can export duty-free or with reduced tariffs to all EFTA member states (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein), after the Free Trade Agreement with the EFTA countries became fully operational.
