Changes in Moldovan Government: Eugeniu Osmochescu proposed for Agriculture and Claudiu Năsui for Economy
Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vasile Tofan announced today two changes in the composition of the Government: Eugeniu Osmochescu is proposed for the position of Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, while Claudiu Năsui as Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, currently held by Osmochescu.
According to the Prime Minister, Eugeniu Osmochescu is familiar with the Government’s mechanisms and priorities, and his economic experience and work in international financial institutions are expected to help attract new resources for the modernization of agriculture.
“His mission is clear: to make Moldovan agriculture more efficient, more competitive, and better adapted to today’s economic realities,” Vasile Tofan said.
For the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Claudiu Năsui has been proposed, a former Minister of Economy in the Romanian Government during 2020–2021 and a former Romanian MP.
Vasile Tofan emphasizes that Năsui has experience in the private and financial sectors, as well as in drafting and implementing governmental reforms. Among the priorities are the debureaucratization of the administration, restructuring state-owned enterprises, reducing budgetary expenditures, and removing obstacles for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Claudiu Năsui studied economics at Paris-Dauphine University and finance at Bocconi University, worked in the financial sector, including at PwC and BCR, and holds the international CFA certification. After years of study and experience abroad, he chose to return to Romania and get involved in public life.
He entered the Romanian Parliament for the first time in 2016, and between 2020 and 2021 he served as Minister of Economy in the Romanian Government. Over this period, he built a very clear profile: less bureaucracy, more transparency in how the state spends money, greater discipline in the public sector, and more space for entrepreneurs.
He is the founder of the Open Budget platform, created to increase transparency in the way public money is spent. He has consistently supported bold reforms, including when they involved questioning structures, expenditures, or privileges perpetuated for years, notes Vasile Tofan.
Also today, President Maia Sandu signed the Decree granting citizenship of the Republic of Moldova to Claudiu Năsui.
The Prime Minister states that the two changes are aimed at accelerating reforms and optimizing public administration.
“Through these two appointments, we want to speed up reforms, make the state more efficient, and give the economy, including the agricultural sector, more room for growth,” said Vasile Tofan.
The position of Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry became vacant after the resignation of Radu Musteața, who left office just a few days after the swearing-in of the Government led by Vasile Tofan.
Musteața submitted his resignation on 24 July 2026, and the Prime Minister accepted it, describing the decision as “an act of responsibility” intended to protect public trust in the Government.
The resignation came amid controversy over Musteața’s political past and information suggesting that he had ties with the former Democratic Party of Moldova. Initially, Musteața denied the accusations, but later he admitted that he had participated for a period in PDM meetings and had signed an application to join the party.
