Speaker invites citizens to events on 35 years of independence

Thirty-five years ago, on August 27, 1991, we all experienced the joy of great hope. On this day, 277 deputies from the first Parliament voted on a historic document – the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, thus laying the foundations of the new state. This message was delivered today by Speaker Igor Grosu, who invited citizens to participate in the events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence.

At the opening of the Parliament’s sitting, the official emphasized that the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova was an act of courage and bravery.

“Today we have the honor of knowing the people who wrote history, and one of them is our colleague, Mihail Druță. I thank you, on behalf of the Parliament and personally, for everything you have done for the Republic of Moldova. You are the founding fathers of this state. Thank you!”, said Igor Grosu.

The Speaker also invited citizens to attend the events on Independence Day.

“At 9:30 a.m. there will be a flower-laying ceremony at the monument of Ruler Stefan cel Mare. The events will continue in the Great National Assembly Square. At 4:30 p.m., we invite all citizens to the military parade, in which over 2,000 soldiers and representatives of the participating structures will take part. More than 1,000 units of military and special equipment from the National Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be presented. The concert dedicated to Independence Day will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will bring numerous local artists to the stage. Let us celebrate the independence that unites us together!”, noted Grosu.

On August 27, the Republic of Moldova will mark 35 years since the proclamation of Independence through a national program of cultural, educational, commemorative and festive events, held both in the country and abroad. The program - Independence That Unites Us. Moldova-35 includes more than 20 activities, including a flower-laying ceremony, festive events and activities dedicated to history and national values.
