China has new Ambassador to Moldova

The People’s Republic of China has a new Ambassador to Moldova – Her Excellency Dong Zhihua, who has arrived in Chisinau and made the first statements at the International Airport in the beginning of her diplomatic mandate.  In a public message, the diplomat extended wishes of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the strong relationship and the broad potential for development between China and Moldova.

„In this wonderful season of golden autumn, I am particularly honoured, following the appointment by President Xi Jinping, to step on this land with delightful landscapes and sincere and hospitable people, known with good reason as the ‘’land of wine,’’ in order to exercise my mandate in my capacity of the 11th extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova. On this occasion, I want to extend warm greetings and sincere thanks to all friends who, during years, have backed with devotion the  development of the friendship and cooperation relations between China and Moldova,’’ the Ambassador of China said at the Chisinau International Airport.

The diplomat noted that the relations between China and Moldova had constantly developed, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and common good.

„China and Moldova maintain traditional friendship and cooperation relations. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1992, the relations between China and Moldova have been maintained on a stable trajectory of development and the pragmatic cooperation and the interhuman exchanges have become ever closer. The bilateral relations have been built based on principles of mutual respect, equality, common good and non-interference with the domestic affairs. Our countries have supported each other in issues dealing with their fundamental interests and with the major concerns, making our friendship and cooperation become the principal subject of the bilateral relations,’’ Dong Zhihua said.

Dong Zhihua emphasized that the establishment of the new parliament and government of Moldova, as well as China entering a new stage of development create friendly opportunities for strengthening the bilateral relations.

„In the capacity of new ambassador, I deem as the principal task the deepening of the traditional Chinese-Moldovan friendship and the extension of the pragmatic cooperation. I will work closely with Moldova’s government and the friends from all sectors of the society, in order to promote together the cooperation in the economic, agricultural, educational, cultural fields, locally, as well as in other sectors, thus contributing to the writing of a new chapter in the friendship relations between China and Moldova,’’ the ambassador noted.

The new ambassador gave assurances that the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China would continue to provide consular protection and support to the Chinese citizens and institutions who are in Moldova.

„Along with my colleagues at the Embassy, we will continue, as always, to provide consular protection and quality services to Chinese compatriots, Chinese institutions, Chinese students and citizens who are in Moldova. Thank you everybody!’’ said the ambassador in the end of the speech delivered at the Airport.

The message by Ambassador Dong Zhihua also today was published on the official website of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Moldova. It contains a symbolic wish:

"May the traditional friendship between China and Moldova mature like fine wine, and may our bilateral relations be as strong as the Great Wall of China."

Until Dong Zhihua's mandate began, the position of ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Moldova was held by Yan Wenbin, who completed his mission in Chisinau in May 2025.

The economic relations between Moldova and China are in a phase of constant growth, with the total bilateral trade volume reaching about 1.25 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, marking an increase of over 22 per cent compared to the previous year.

Moldova's exports to China amounted to about 8.5 million U.S. dollars, predominated by wine, fruits and agricultural products, while imports, exceeding 1.24 U.S. billion dollars, mainly consisted of electrical equipment, machinery and industrial goods.

China is Moldova's third-largest trading partner. Economic cooperation extends into new areas – green energy, electric mobility and modern technologies – providing prospects for diversification and long-term development.
