Munich Security Conference // Moldovan foreign affairs minister has bilateral meetings with counterparts from more countries

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has had meetings with counterparts from more states, in the context of his participation in the Munich Security Conference (MSC). The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, regional security, the European path of Moldova and expanding economic relations.

Thus, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi met his counterparts from Ireland, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Serbia — Helen McEntee, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Petr Macinka and Marko Đurić — State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Géza Andreas von Geyr, as well as Bavarian State Minister for European Affairs and International Relations Eric Beißwenger.

In the discussion with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Minister of Defence of Ireland, Helen McEntee, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi extended an invitation to pay an official visit to Chișinău, on the occasion of the opening of the Embassy of Ireland in Moldova.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the Moldovan diplomacy head appreciated Ireland’s support in the process of accession to the European Union and expressed interest in boosting cooperation, including in view of Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026. The sides also discussed advancing negotiations on bilateral agreements in the fields of mutual recognition of driving licenses and social protection, as well as the organization of political consultations.

At the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Moldovan minister underlined the importance of political dialogue and cooperation in areas of common interest, in the context of regional challenges and the European path of Moldova. Mihai Popsoi highlighted priority areas for cooperation with Denmark, including investments in agriculture, cybersecurity, renewable energy, waste management, education, robotics and tourism infrastructure. The support provided through Danish development assistance was appreciated, including for backing Moldova’s EU accession efforts and strengthening cybersecurity.

The dialogue with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Petr Macinka reconfirmed the positive dynamics of Moldovan–Czech relations, based on shared European values and steady cooperation. Mihai Popsoi expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Czech Republic in strengthening the resilience of Moldova, in the context of current regional challenges, as well as for its firm support for Moldova’s European path.

During discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Marko Đurić, the Moldovan deputy PM tackled the current state of Moldovan–Serbian relations and opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation, with an emphasis on the political and economic fields, as well as on strengthening the bilateral legal framework. The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments, the European security context and the European integration paths of both states.

At the meetings with State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Géza Andreas von Geyr and Bavarian State Minister for European Affairs and International Relations Eric Beißwenger, Mihai Popsoi expressed appreciation for Germany’s constant support for Moldova in the European integration process. He also highlighted interest in expanding cooperation with the federal states. He also thanked them for the ongoing development cooperation projects and invited German companies in advanced technology sectors to make use of the innovation and technological development capacities of Moldova.
