First meeting of expert council under parliamentary commission for European integration held in Moldova

The parliamentary commission for European integration has held the first meeting of the Expert Council attached to the Committee, during which a platform of cooperation with civil society was launched.

The Expert Council brings together 45 members – specialists in such fields as international relations, European affairs, political science, environmental policy, law, economics, human rights and gender policies. Seventeen out of the 45 members are based abroad, in such countries as Romania, the United States, Germany, Austria, Denmark, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Canada, the Kingdom of Belgium and Ireland.

According to the parliament’s communication department, the members of the Council will contribute, through their expertise, to the work of the commission in such areas as aligning national legislation with the acquis of the European Union (EU), implementing the National Programme for EU Accession, the roadmaps and fulfilling the recommendations contained in the enlargement report.

To facilitate communication with the members of the Council, the commission for European integration has launched a digital platform through which civil society will be able to use its expertise more effectively regarding the transposition of the EU acquis and to provide comments on draft laws aimed at harmonizing national legislation.

The Expert Council is an advisory body without legal personality, which ensures the participation and involvement of stakeholders in the legislative process, as well as the assessment of the impact of legislation on citizens’ lives. Membership in the Council is honorary, voluntary and unpaid.

The commission for European integration is made up of 11 members and is chaired by MP Marcel Spatari. It was established in the parliament of the 12th legislative period, in order to accelerate the process of EU accession and to ensure the effective transposition of European norms into national legislation.
