PHOTO // Moldovan head of state has official meetings in Munich

President Maia Sandu has had more bilateral meetings with counterparts and high-ranking officials in Munich. The main topic on the agenda was the security of  Moldova and support for the country’s European path.

The official emphasized that, in an uncertain global context, Moldova was building solid and trustworthy partnerships.

“These days I am in Munich to discuss with leaders from Europe and beyond the continent about the security of Moldova and the support for our European path. In an uncertain global context, Moldova is building solid and trustworthy partnerships. We need common solutions to the risks that threaten our stability – so that we can preserve peace and remain part of the free world,” said Maia Sandu.

The event, opened by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, brought together 50 heads of state and government and high-ranking officials from Europe and beyond.

On the first day of the conference, the head of state held bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Estonia Kristen Michal, Secretary of State of the United States of America Marco Rubio and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Also today, Maia Sandu will hold talks with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson and Reem Alabali-Radovan, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.

On February 14, bilateral meetings are planned with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković and President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović. The president will also meet more MPs from European countries, in order to promote the European path of Moldova.

In addition, the head of state took part in a debate dedicated to preventing and combating hybrid threats, together with Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, President of the German Federal Intelligence Service Martin Jäger and Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

The Munich Security Conference is one of the most important international forums dedicated to global security. The agenda of the meeting includes discussions on global instability, the challenges facing the rules-based international order, European security and defence, the future of the transatlantic relationship, the revitalization of multilateralism, regional conflicts and the security implications of technological advances.
